20Haiti – January 16, 2010. The UPCI First Response Team is on the ground in Haiti accessing the situation. They arrived at the Bible School Compound. The walls of the compound fell, but the buildings are intact. Bro. LaPorte, the Leader of our work on Haiti is alive and well, as can be expected, considering the circumstances. Please continue to pray for the team and for our ministers and saints in Haiti.

The SMART Team stated in an interview with Compassion Services International that they were able to assess some of the earthquake damage today in and around Port-au-prince, Haiti. Downtown Port-au-prince is heavily damaged. In the outskirts of the city the damage was much more sporadic. They would go several blocks that were not damaged and then come to several that were heavily damaged. They are now trying to establish a staging area at the Headquarters and Bible School compound that is secure. This would give future teams a secure place to work and store supplies. There was severe damage to the compound and it will need several repairs. Fortunately, the only thing that collapsed was the water tower.  The SMART team is still trying to make contact with more people. Part of the Team will be traveling back to Santo Domingo tomorrow.
