Breanna with David and Juny Montes after being baptized in Jesus Name!

Breanna with David and Juny Montes after being baptized in Jesus Name!

Tucson, AZ- March 20th, 2010. Tucson International Academy will be adding a third after school bible club at their Midvale campus with an apostolic member teaching the Act 2:38 messages. Breanna Bretz, a student from the West campus , has recently been baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost after being a member of this growing after school bible club! A fourth bible club has also been requested by the charter school for its Eastside location and is currently in the process of being developed. This is an amazing opportunity for Christians to bring God back into the public schools.

This all began when Juny Montes, a member of Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church enrolled her daughter in Kindergarten at the Central Tucson International Academy Campus in August 2007. While picking up her daughter from school, a staff member approached her after taking notice of her modest apparel and kind spirit and asked if she was a member of a church. The staff member explained that the school was looking for a church organization to replace the denominational group who would not be returning to teach their after school bible club. Juny Montes and her husband David knew they couldn’t pass up this open door to teach these children about the Lord and to their delight they were informed they could teach anything out of the bible they wanted during this hour after school.
David and Juny Montes began teaching the bible club in September with only 8 children present. The popularity of this group began to grow and by the time Christmas break was over it had 55 students in attendance. Great things were happening in these sessions but it wasn’t until the Montes transferred to the West Campus that t they met Breanna Bretz. The West campus opened in August of 2008 and was closer to the Montes home so they enrolled their daughter and began the bible club with a new set of students. Breanna started coming to the bible club at first because she was curious. She told the Montes, “I don’t know if I believe in God”. She had come from a troubled past but developed a strong personal bond with the Montes and their three young children. The school year ended and Breanna still was not convinced she believed in the Apostolic Doctrine until the summer when something tragic transpired in her life. Breanna knew she needed a higher power to get her through this trial and she was glad she knew who to turn to and call for help.

Saturday July 5th 2009 Breanna contacted the Montes family and asked if she could attend church with them the next morning. After the preaching Breanna said, “I felt pulled to go to the altar and pray” and it was there that she was finally convinced that God existed because she could feel that He was real! September 11th, 2009 Breanna received the Holy Ghost just a little over a month shy of her 14th birthday on February 7th, 2010; Breanna was baptized in Jesus name! “I finally found a place where I belong” she exclaimed and although it has been a struggle at times with her family to understand her new found beliefs she continues to be faithful to church services. Breanna believes that eventually her family members will come to know the Truth as she continues to be involved in the youth group.
A second bible club was formed back at the Central Tucson International Academy location in December of 2009. Cheryl Murray and Holly Preston also members of Faith Tabernacle Church, are teaching this group and it is thriving. We are expecting more students to come to the Lord in the coming months as the third campus in Midvale begins bible study sessions and eventually the Eastside campus. To God be all the glory and honor for bringing His Word back into public schools when many have fought so hard to keep Him out!
