Mizoram, N.E. India – May, 06, 2010. The sounds of praise, drums and singing filled the air as an estimated 10,000 filled the tent and outside area Sunday morning. All had come to magnify the Lord and celebrate the 60th year of the UPCI in the only Christian province of India, Mizoram. Appropriately the General Conference had been titled Diamond Jubilee. Diamond representing 60 in the culture and Jubilee signifying that all who had left the church would be welcomed back with full restoration.
The meeting began Thursday, April 15th. The first night Foreign Missions Director Bruce Howell preached on faith. Preparing the people for what God would do the remainder of the meeting. The people erupted in praise and worship.
Friday night Pastor John Shivers from California preached on the essentiality of having the Holy Ghost. The people were stirred. Evangelist Brian Norman then preached on “God’s Expressed Will”, taking his text from 2 Cor. 5:19. He then made the altar call. 65 received the Holy Ghost and several were healed.
Saturday night Australian Superintendent John Downs preached. His title was “Inheriting the Promise”. He emphasized how God’s people throughout history had believed God to do what He said He would do. He then turned the service to Evangelist Brian Norman who used the text of Luke 11:11-13 to preach how God, like our earthly father’s, desires to give us good gifts. He then made the altar call. 104 received the Holy Ghost.
Sunday morning was the peak crowd in attendance with right at 10,000 in the service, including the Prime Minister of the state of Mizoram. Bro. Bruce Howell preached on the subject “We Have Reason To Rejoice”. Citing how greatly the constituency had grown since its’ beginnings. At the conclusion 19 ministers were ordained.
Sunday night the Regional Director of Asia Lynden Shalm preached on forgiveness and restoration. Upon completing he had Bro. Howell pray for the sick. Over 20 people in the altar area alone signified God healed them after the prayer of faith.
Bro. Howell then turned the service to Evangelist Norman who gave the Holy Ghost altar call. Explaining what the Holy Ghost was and how to receive it. 111 received the Holy Ghost. In total 280 received the Holy Ghost and the name of the Lord was magnified.
