GERMANY – August 14, 2010. German authorities are closing the doors on a mosque once used by the 9/11 attackers.
Authorities said the Taiba mosque in Hamburg was a “recruiting and meeting point for Islamic radicals who wanted to participate in so-called jihad or holy war.”
German police confiscated evidence from the mosque, including radical training courses and sermons. The mosque was used by several 9/11 hijackers before coming to the U.S. and has been under close watch since the attack.
This is the first time the Taiba mosque has been closed.
The local interior ministry said about 45 supporters of jihad live in the Hamburg area and about 200 people regularly attend Friday prayers at the Taiba mosque.
