Indianapolis – November 14, 2009. Apostolic News. Assistant General Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church International, Bishop Paul Mooney, underwent bypass surgery today. The surgery went well and doctors feel it was a success.
Brother Mooney had not been feeling well the past several days, and was being treated for an intestinal infection with antibiotics. While visiting the doctor on Monday for this infection, the doctor decided to do bloodwork and an EKG as well.We know that Brother Mooney, and the entire Mooney family, will greatly appreciate your prayers, loving concern and thoughts during this time.

The next day,Tuesday, November 10, the doctor called Brother Mooney and informed him that the test results indicated some issues with his heart and recommended that he see a heart doctor – which Bro. Mooney did yesterday. At that visit, the heart doctor ordered a heart cath which thankfully revealed that there was no damage to the heart but that there was blockage necessitating bypass surgery on November 12.

Updates will be posted on Calvary Tabernacle’s website www.calvarytabindy.com.
We know that Brother Mooney, and the entire Mooney family, will greatly appreciate your prayers, loving concern and thoughts during this time.
CPC International

Apostolic News will spread the good news about the surgery and ask that all that read this offer prayers of thankfulness for God’s protective hand on Bishop Mooney.

Apostolic News. Days of heavy rains loosed mud and boulders that rolled down the slopes of the Chichontepec volcano before dawn Sunday, burying homes and cars in Verapaz, a town of about 7,000 people 30 miles outside the capital, San Salvador.

Hurricane Ida’s presence in the western Caribbean late last week may have played a role in drawing the rain-packed, Pacific low-pressure system toward El Salvador on the other side of Central America, said Dave Roberts, a Navy hurricane specialist at the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida.

President Mauricio Funes toured Verapaz on Monday morning, stopping to talk to men shoveling more than three feet of mud from their homes.

“The images speak clearly,” Funes told reporters. “This is a disaster.”

He urged El Salvador’s congress to approve millions of dollars in loans from the Inter-American Development Bank, saying some of the funds would be used for reconstruction.

Soldiers, emergency workers and relatives resumed a search for the missing at daybreak Monday and military helicopters flew in food for the searchers.

Survivor Cruz Ayala described the slide as “something black, like a huge wave, a huge noise, and I heard screams of people asking for help.”

She fled and climbed the roof of a neighbor’s house without knowing if her 71-year-old mother and two teenage nieces escaped. She later found their bodies in the rubble.

Mayor Jose Antonio Hernandez said rescuers found six more bodies in Verapaz, raising the town’s death toll to 16, with 47 confirmed missing.

Nationwide, the death toll stood at 134, Funes told reporters.

With no place to put the bodies in Verapaz, many of the dead were taken to nearby towns until families could claim them.

In the town of San Isidro, eight coffins were lined up in a church that also served as a shelter for about 200 people whose homes were damaged.

Amid a persistent drizzle, rescuers dug frantically for survivors with shovels and even bare hands. But the search was made difficult by collapsed walls, boulders and downed power lines that blocked heavy machinery.

Mario Montoya said his sister, who was eight months pregnant, was among the dead.

“A torrent of water grew and great boulders started to destroy homes. It was terrible,” said Montoya, 29.

Matias Mendoza, 26, was at home in Verapaz with his wife, Claudia, and their 1-year-old son, Franklin, when the earth began moving.

“It was about two in the morning when the rain started coming down harder, and the earth started shaking,” Mendoza recalled. “I warned my wife and grabbed my son, and all of a sudden we heard a sound. The next thing I knew I was lying among parts of the walls of my house.

“A few minutes later, I found my wife and my son in the middle of the rubble, and, thank God, we’re alive,” said Mendoza, who suffered cuts on his cheek that emergency workers stitched up.

Almost 7,000 people saw their homes damaged by landslides or cut off by floodwaters following three days of downpours from the low-pressure system.

San Vicente Gov. Manuel Castellanos said workers were struggling to clear roadways, and power and water service had been knocked out. At least 300 houses were flooded when a river in Verapaz overflowed its banks, Lopez Mendoza said.

YORKTOWN – November 12, 2009. Apostolic News. Gabby VanOoteghem says she’s different than the average teenager. Unlike most of her classmates, the 14-year-old Yorktown Middle School student doesn’t wear makeup, wears a skirt every day to school, doesn’t cut her hair and attends church at least three days a week.
Why?
Because she’s devoted to serving God. VanOoteghem attends River of Life church in Muncie, where her father serves as executive pastor. And though she admits to being a little “different” from her classmates, she’s comfortable in her own skin and is happy to share about her religion — which she does in her essay, “Me at 14,” which was published by a United Pentecostal Church magazine, Trumpet.
When seventh-grade language arts teacher Suzanne Fox asked her students to write about their lives at 14, VanOoteghem knew exactly what to write about. “I wrote mostly about my religion, because that’s basically the base of everything I do,” she said.
The essay impressed Fox.
“I thought Gabby showed real courage in talking about so many things that are important to her,” Fox said.
VanOoteghem admits that she rushed through writing the article to get the assignment done, so she was surprised when editors of the magazine wanted to publish her essay.
In fact, she didn’t even know the article had been submitted. VanOoteghem’s father read the article when he printed it out for her, and submitted it to a church Web site.
“Our Indiana youth minister was on there and he saw it and asked if he could submit it to Trumpet,” she said.
The article ran in the September 2009 issue of the magazine.
“I’ve never had a student be published before … I thought it was really encouraging for her,” Fox said. “She’s a good kid.”

Chicago – November 11, 2009. Apostolic News. An Apostolic family is safe, but is left with virtually nothing after an errant bus barrelled into the south side of their home early Tuesday morning.

Deemed unsafe by city officials, the home was razed hours after the impact.”They’re coping as best they can, but they’re completely starting over,” said Michael Ellis, an administator with the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park, which owns the home.Ellis said Smith was only allowed to enter the front of her home for a few minutes to gather a few things.

Ground Zero was the back of the home, where the bedrooms and bathroom were located, and where the most necessary and sentimental items were kept.” They don’t have anything and winter time is coming,” Ellis said. “They don’t even have their coats.”For now, the single mother and her boys, who are between the ages of 8 and 18, are staying with relatives who live in the area.

The boys are out of school on Wednesday because of the Veterans Day holiday. The driver of the bus, 36-year-old Zoye Sanders, was cited for negligent driving. She has an appearance in traffic court scheduled for New Year’s Eve, the Chicago Tribune reported. The 111 Pullman/111th/115th bus was traveling south on Vincennes when it hit the south side of the house, Neighbors said it wasn’t the first time the Morgan Park home has been hit by a vehicle, and buses have been known to take the corner too fast.

Four people on the bus were not seriously injured. The Apostolic Pentecostal Church is heading up the support efforts for LaSharon Smith and her four sons and is accepting donations of cash, clothing and household necessities. Anyone who wants to help the family should call 773-881-6900.

Gojra, Pakistan – August 15, 2009. Christians in Pakistan face unbelievable persecution in a country that is predominantly Muslim. In a court of law, a Christian man’s testimony is worth half that of a Muslim and a Christian woman’s testimony is only worth quarter. As a result, many Christian women are abused and cannot defend themselves. Also, it is part of the law to give a death sentence to anyone who defies the name of the prophet Mohammed. The law only requires four Muslim witnesses for a conviction. It is laws like this that Muslim extremists use to persecute Christians and in many areas where there is not a lot of police, Muslims will take matters into their own hands. This is what happened on August 2, 2009. At a nearby mosque, the imam began to falsely accuse Christians in the village of Gojra and Korian of burning the book of the Koran. Within a few minutes, a Muslim mob ran to these villages and demolished about 70 homes, 2 churches, and killed 8 Christians—including children. One of the churches was an Apostolic church. The local police watched the whole episode and did not even try to stop them. Our Bible College director for Apostolic School of Theology International, visited the Christian villages and brought food, water, and money. He was astounded at the atrocities that took place in that village. He lives only about 90 miles away from those villages.

Two weeks later, another attack was planned by a local mob of Muslims—this time in the same city where he lives. Somehow he overheard that the imam, the leader of the Mosque, was planning to throw a torn Koran in the streets of the city. He called me and we sent messages by Twitter to pray for him and our two churches in that city. This time the local police and military was ready for them and when the imam threw the Koran in the street, he was immediately arrested and the persecution was stopped completely. Thank God for the prayers of many people that day!

We are all talking about “September Surge”. Our first speaker is Evangelist/Missionary Matt Tuttle. This will be the last place he will be preaching at before he heads back to Holland where he will be working for the next year! I am personally thrilled to have him coming to be with us. He is one of the finest preachers you will ever hear. The anointing of the Holy Spirit is evident as well as is his burden to bring people into the presence of God.

Service Times:

10 am

6:30 pm

(Sunday)

Labor Day

Happy Labor day everyone! Last night we had over 85 people had a bible study expo type mtg with Sterling Busby. It was fantastic as new people are stepping up to teach personal bible studies. The power of the Holy Spirit rained down upon us in mighty way. I don’t know if I have ever been in a service quite like last night. What made last night’s service unique was the way that God used particular people from the congregation to minister to the body. There was a divine “breakthrough” as men & women begin to speak & testify of what God was doing in their lives. There were miraculous things that happened before the service ended and many were filled with the Holy Ghost.

An anointed saint of God is a powerful force against the enemy! Sorry its been so long! Here is my first post of the New Year! (I am doing a little better on my twitter).

I am sitting in my regular spot with my soy latte (sugar-free of course) when I open a new email from an Indian friend of mine. As I am reading, I almost drop my latte and start running and screaming “hallelujah” through the coffee-shop (at least it would cover up the terrible music- lol). My friend Kal, just sent me pictures of an incredible revival that is happening in India. Thousands are being baptized in the name of Jesus and are receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit! My soul has been blessed this morning and I had to tell the world.

I know many of you have and are going through difficulties and circumstances that try your faith but let me remind you… God is not having difficulty!

He is working His plan in the earth at this very moment! He never wrings His hands in worry or frustration. He is God! Enough said!

No matter what you are facing, God is still God! He never stops being God! While we may not understand our present circumstance we know that all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord!

A revival report that comes in the midst of the fight is a source of strength. Take heart, you are not forgotten. You are in the middle of God’s plan for the earth. Throw your hands up in surrender and say “God, I am yours” and let God work it out.

Man, I am excited this morning!
